BAFTA Nominations Announced - who are your favourites?

3rd January, 2013

Award season is just around the corner, and after the announcement of the EE BAFTA Rising Star Award nominations earlier this week the full list of BAFTA Award nominations has been released, with Life Of Pi, Skyfall, Lincoln and Les Miserables leading the pack.

Les Miserables, Life of Pi and Lincoln are all up for Best Film, along with Kathryn Bigelow's upcoming Zero Dark Thirty and Ben Affleck's political thriller Argo, which is nominated a further six times. Skyfall is nominated in the Outstanding British Film category.

Elsewhere, FILMCLUB favourites ParaNorman and Frankenweenie will fight it out with Pixar's Highland epic Brave for Best Animated Feature, while Kevin Macdonald's Marley has been selected in the Best Documentary category. A favourite of ours from the BFI London Film Festival Beasts Of The Southern Wild has also been nominated in the Best Adapted Screenplay category.

Javier Bardem's portrayal of psychotic villain Silva in Skyfall has earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination, and his co-star Judi Dench is up for Best Supporting Actress for her moving performance as M. Daniel Day-Lewis looks like a very strong nomination in the Best Actor category, while two foreign language films are mentioned for Best Actress - Marion Cotillard in Rust and Bone, and Emmanuelle Riva in Amour.

How it all works

BAFTA's voting membership comprises of 6500 industry professionals from across the world of film, with voting split into two rounds - the first producing the nominations, the second the overall winner. On certain awards, such as the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer and the EE Rising Star Award, a specially selected jury decides the nominations and the winner.

Your vote counts

You can vote to decide EE BAFTA's Rising Star award. The likes of James McAvoy, Tom Hardy and Kristen Stewart have won it in the past, but who will get the acclaimed title this year? Read up on the nominations - which include Life of Pi star Suraj Sharma - and find out how you can vote.
