Heavily pregnant Isabella is at home awaiting the return of her Egyptian-American husband Anwar from a business conference when she discovers Anwar has been the subject of a US government "rendition". This is the practise where terrorist suspects can be forcibly moved to other countries to be questioned without the legal restraints that apply in America. But without any further information, Isabella doesn't even know where her husband is being held - or whether there might be any truth to the government's accusations. This is powerful film-making, making an important contribution to discussions around the War on Terror and the ethics of foreign policy.

Rendition is a sad film of constant suspense, action and predujice. The film shows the emotional path for those who trully love someone who is lost. It shows how people are brainwashed into terrorism by suicide. The view of torture by watching how they extract terrorist information and the extreem measures they go through. The time lapse that is not made apparent is exelently conducted and is the perfect added effect to the film. It shows how the bad the world is at constant war with itself.

I can only blame myself for being disapointed with this film. I assumed, because it has a shoot-em up, action packed sounding name, that it will be thrills and stunts the whole way through. However, that was not the case. The film was actualy quite slow, but that strangly helped the story. The story is about a man who has be captured, and accused of being a terrorist. It shows a split between the people who stornly beliee that the right thing to do is interrogate/torture him and the people who find it moralely wrong what they are doing to him and try to prove his innocence. With Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon helping the film give the performances it needs, this makes a truly enjoyable film for those who do not mind having to sit still and concentrate whilst watching a film. ****

Rendition is a political film, to understand it properly you would need alot of patience as it does take concentration to work it out. It gives a different view of terrorism, however, the torture techniques used could be considered quite distrubing to someone with a weak stomach, personally i wouldn't recommend this film as it didn't take my fancy, to a person who is interested in politics it could make quite a good film.
