FILMCLUB's major partner is the Department for Education (DfE) which provides the funding to make film clubs free to schools across England. The Department for Education (then called the Department for Children, Schools and Families) has supported the organisation since its launch in 2008. The Times Educational Supplement (TES), the UK’s weekly newspaper for teachers, has supported the use of cinema in education for more than 100 years. “The old fashioned teacher may try to blind himself by despising the cinema and by sneering at the rubbish which he thinks is shown there,” it wrote in 1944. “But by assuming these attitudes he becomes out of touch with the bright eagerness in the hearts of his boys and girls.” Every week, the magazine publishes a double page spread of FILMCLUB members reviews.

Industry Trust logoIndustry Trust
The Industry Trust was set up in 2004 to help promote copyright and all the good stuff it does. They work with member companies (from film studios to retailers) to spread the word about the positive role copyright plays in helping to protect creative ideas and secure the livelihoods of the 150,000 people that work in film and TV in the UK. FILMCLUB is committed to helping communicate this message to young people.

Debating Matters logoDebating Matters
When the Institute of Ideas launched the Debating Matters Competition for sixth form students in 2003/04, it aimed to present schools with an innovative and engaging approach to debating. Topical debates and a challenging format appeal to students from a wide range of backgrounds, including schools with a long tradition of debating and those with no experience at all. The competition emphasises substance, not just style, and the importance of taking ideas seriously - and FILMCLUB is working with the organisation to show how film can be used to kick-start great debates on a whole range of ideas and themes.

In addition to the BFI, the 21st Century Literacy initiative comprises:
