Edward Scissorhands

Edward Scissorhands is an odd film. The main character Edward, can be seen as troubled, when he acts in certain ways which would be seen as unacceptable for most humans, but Edward isn't human if he has scissors for hands, however some people would beg to differ. The actions the characters make throughout the film can be seen as a good thing, but then later on in the film you may begin to hate that certain character. Edward is judged and treated differently by others just because of the way he looks, some of this treatment may be what he deserves, while some of it may not be, but he can't help that he has scissor hands. Just like in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Johnny Depp, who plays Edward gets flashbacks from previous times in his life. Living in an attic has had an adverse effect on Edward because he was quite a timid character at first. Having scissors for hands has disadvantages like eating with a knife and fork, but it does have certain perks like being able to cut hedges into wacky shapes and the ability to cut dog hair and human hair. Edward Scissorhands isn't an amazing film, yet it isn't terrible - I think that it is suited to a younger audience, however at times it can be a bit scary.

Arrietty

Arrietty is definately worth three stars as it made me want to write my own story with different kinds of adventures and experiences. I dont really have a favourite character as they are all great. The one thing I would do to get the extra two stars is to tell the viewers how the little people became little instead of normal humans and to show how they made their little houses because personally I think that would make it more interesting and would give us more of a picture in our imaginations. I liked how they borrowed from real humans and that they are the only little humans around. The best part of the film for me was when Arrietty was seen with her dad and dropped the salt cube that she was just about to borrow because it showed lots of different feelings and emotions. The director (Hiromasa Yonebayashi) and the person who created the story and script don't need to make the story longer because it didn't get boring, in fact it was just right! Also it is quite upsetting to hear that the young boy can not do as much as most other children can and that at the end of the film he says "my opperation is in two days" then Arrietty gives him her clothes line peg that she uses for her hair to give him luck for is opperation. I didn't like it when the boys granma put Arrietty's mum into the jar because there was no reason at all why she should do that and why would she want to. But if it showed why she doesn't like them living next to her house then I would understand why she did that. On the other hand it is quite funny at the end as because they are little they used a teapot as a boat to cross the water to get to the place where they are going to build their new house. I recommend this film to anyone who likes a bit of animation. They are my reasons why I have rated this film three stars out of five stars.

Jurassic Park

This Steven Speilberg blockbuster 'Jurassic Park' is a big thumbs up for me , because of the non stop action, the humour, and the fantastic plot. In my opinion, I think it should be brought in the cinemas again in 3D!!! Looking at the part when the 'Velociraptor' jumped through the roof, if that was in 3D, I would poo myself. I have watched all three Jurassic Parks and I think the very first one was the best, followed closely by nummber 3, and then 'The Lost World'. They are all unbelievable films, but some are better than others. Although I rated this picture 5 STARS, there is one let down: I didn't think Sam Neil (Alan Grant) was a very good actor, compared to everyone else. Nothing else let's this film down though! Adventurous, funny, scary, action-packed: these are all the words to describe 'Jurassic Park'. The effect were excellent, the atmosphere was scary, everything was basically PERFECT! 10/10

Inception

Inception is a facinating movie. It is a extrimely trick movie. It messes with our mind living us doubting the smallest things in life. This movie makes us imagen what can we do while we are dreaming. Can you imagen such a thing? how facinating would it be to be able to control our dreams, there are people who can control their dreams and they state that there is no such amaizing thing. In this movie Cobb (Leonard DiCaprio) is unable to go to USA because his wife Mal (Marion Cotillard) who has being in the limbo for 50 years ( Dream time) and now she does not know what is real and what is not has declaired to 3 different psychiatrist that Cobb has threated to kill her and than she kills her self but the police thinks it was Cobb, so he must run away, other ways he will get arrested. the most facinating and interesting part of the movie is the last scene. If you have watched "Titanic" you will know what I am talking about. Jack (Leonard DiCaprio) say in "tatinic" to Rose (Kate Winslet) that she will die in a nice and warm bed when she is old. Than towards the end of the movie she is a nice and warm bed and she is old and she starts to see all the people who died in titanic, so we wonder if she is dead or she is just sleeping. Similarly in Inception Cobb (Leonard DiCaprio) says to Ariadne (Ellen Page) that he has a totems that has the duty to tell him (not in words) wether or not he is dreaming. His totems is a whipping-top and if it spin unstopably he is dreaming. This is the trick part, in the last scene he gets back to his childrens in the USA, and to make sure he is not dreaming he spins his whipping-top but he gets called by his father to see his childrens and he walks away from the table where the whipping-top is spining, the camera turns to the whipping-top and it spins, spins, spins ans spins and when it is about to fall the movie ends. We nevers know if he is in reallity or dreaming. What do you think?

The Gold Rush

I liked this film because it was black and white and I like most films that are in black and white. It was a very funny film! I liked the bit where the house is falling off the cliff and charlie chaplin is left in there while big Jim is saying thank you to god because the big sack of money went with them! There was also a lot of romance with Georgia and Charlie Chaplin (yuck)! I rated Gold Rush with a 4* because it was very funny but I didn't like the romance! Charlie chaplin Rocks!

The Cave Of The Yellow Dog

I liked The Cave Of The Yellow Dog, because it taught me lots about how poor people live, and what they eat to stay alive. my favourite part of this movie, was when the little chinese girl first found the dog in a cave.Surprizingly the dog was not a yellow dog. This movie is a chinese movie, so you would have to read the subtittles.I would recomend this movie to people who like reading ,and who like learning about different ways that people live.

Rabbit-Proof Fence

I don't think i've ever been more touched by a film. The fact that this film was based on a real story, it inspired me. It made me feel that I could do anything that I want to do. The film was exciting and interesting. The actors were amazing, they made me think about how the actual people felt when they did this. the casting director did a really good job. Three very young girls are taken away to a camp far from their friends and family just because they are aboriginals. a few weeks into the camp they plan to run away so they can be with the people they love again. on their way they meet people who help them on their quest. But the tracker is following their every move! What makes the tracker scary, is that he never talks, he always carries a weapon and is always on the lookout, finding clues straight away that you and me will never spot at first glance, like a covered up footprint. This is nothing like any other film, sure you get the people running away and the happy ending but this is based on a real story! What i liked about this film is the way it toched me and kept me on the edge of my seat at the same time. what I disliked is how the youngest of the three girls are found and taken back to camp never to be seen again. I would rate this film four stars. one for the heart-touching moments, another for the amount of characters ( I've complained about the lack of charecters and having too many characters in my previous reveiws). The third star for having me on the edge of my seat. Finally, the fourth star for the great job that the director and actors did. wether you are 9 or 99 i strongly recomend this film to everyone out there!

Big Fish

Wow! I haven't watched a film like this in a long time and have been looking for an experience like the one "Big Fish" gave me. This isn't an ordinary film which takes you on an imaginary journey with a happy ending but a movie which embraces the viewer and makes you question reality and ask, "Is life really how we see it, or is it all a dream?" If you are the type of person who likes just to relax back watch some light entertainment, then I would advise that you look away from the film "Big Fish", as you are in danger of watching something that makes you think and try to find the message inside this parable. It takes you on an emotional rollercoaster throughout the full 125 minutes of viewing time. In the first 15 minutes it is quite confusing and hard to grasp. To be honest, I thought it was a classic weird and whacky Tim Burton film and was starting to lose interest. But don't be put off by the start, as the rest of the story ties up most of the lose ends and you feel like you can't look away because you are so desperate to find out what is fact and what is fiction. Overall, this film made me think and want to explore deeper into the story to find the truth. Not many films have ever gave me this experience and after watching this I am now on the look-out for more Tim Burton specials. I would reccomend this film to anyone with a keen mind.

The Others

The Others takes all the traditional ingredients you'd expect to find in a horror film: the isolated mansion surrounded by fog, mysterious noises; creepy servants, it even has the classic self-playing piano, and yet despite this it still manages to come up with enough original twists to keep you on the edge of your seat and occasionally scare you out of it. If you enjoy watching horror films them this should be on your list , get watching !
