It was back in 1989 that movie-lovers last saw the legendary Indiana Jones - archaeologist, adventurer, and star of three of Hollywood’s most beloved action movies: Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and that final instalment, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Final, that is, until now. Because this term, almost 20 years after he last swung his trademark bull-whip, Indy is coming back to introduce a whole new generation to the joys of treasure-hunting and foiling bad guys in a new adventure, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – due to hit cinemas in May.
Here at FilmClub we were delighted to see his return. So delighted, in fact, that in his honour we’re presenting a season devoted to the kind of films of which he’s always been a standard-bearer. They were once called “Saturday morning movies” after the time at which they used to be shown back in the early days of film – action-packed, thrill-filled cinema at its most purely fun. But with FilmClub, it doesn’t have to be the weekend to escape into and be blown away these classic tales of derring’do and fearless adventure.
SUGGESTED PAIR
27 years after Indiana Jones made his debut in the rip-roaring Raiders of the Lost Ark, what better way to celebrate than to team that much-loved classic with his new adventure, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?
The hero of The Mask of Zorro is a suave figure who regularly makes the opposite sex weak at the knees – quite a contrast to the rather less smooth, but ultimately no less heroic Hellboy.
PLEASE NOTE THAT INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL WILL BE SHOWING AT CINEMAS DURING THE SUMMER TERM, AND WE HOPE THAT YOU’LL CHOOSE TO EXPERIENCE IT ON THE BIG-SCREEN. AS SOON AS IT BECOMES AVAILABLE ON DVD, FILM CLUB WILL BE OFFERING OUR MEMBERS TO CHANCE TO WATCH IT IF THROUGH US.
