Films by season & age - Time Travel (Ages 8-12)
Seasons are a great way to explore different ideas through watching a group of films. Why not try watching all the films in a season and make some time for discussion. Topics and discussion points are included.
- Back to the Future (PG)
- Groundhog Day (PG)
- It's a Wonderful Life (U)
- The Time Machine (PG)
- Time Bandits (PG)
One of the greatest features of the movies is, of course, their ability to let us do what it might not (yet!) be possible to do in the real world. And what more impossible dream could there be than to travel through time - a subject that has long fascinated movie-makers, and one represented in this FILM CLUB season.
For some of the movies here, the real point of their incredible journey is to give the person making it a lesson about life - for others, it's to correct a mistake from the past. But either way, the movies presented here show us things we never thought we could see - and that's what the movies are all about.
Suggested pair:
Why not run back-to-back screenings of the equally heartwarming small-town yarns Groundhog Day and It's A Wonderful Life?
Talking points:
- What aspects of the modern world do you think a time traveller from the future would find most weird - and funniest?
- Which period in time would you most like to travel back to?
