Films by season & age - The Heart of the Jungle (Ages 5-8)

Seasons are a great way to explore different ideas through watching a group of films. Why not try watching all the films in a season and make some time for discussion. Topics and discussion points are included.

“It’s a jungle out there,” people sometimes say when they’re trying to describe a hectic place or situation. But here at FilmClub we know what a real jungle is like – because we’ve seen it with our own eyes in a range of classic movies that we’re now delighted to share with you. More often than not, you’ll find that these jungle tales feature mankind among the towering tree-tops and plentiful wildlife. Sometimes the results find the hero at one with his surroundings – as in the animated Tarzan or the hilarious George of the Jungle. But at other times, he or she is less well-adapted. Just check out the antics of Mowgli in The Jungle Book – or more dramatically, the spectacular King Kong!

SUGGESTED PAIR

For a mix of the old and new, try teaming up the zany cartoon antics of Madagascar with that classic Disney yarn, The Jungle Book.

TALKING POINTS

Would you be sorry to see the world’s jungles disappear – and do you think we should do what we can to save them?: Did you find the jungle a scary setting – or is it a place you would like to explore yourself?

GUIDANCE

Very young viewers may find some of the scenes in King Kong, with the fierce and dangerous animals of Skull Island, disturbing.
