Films by season & age - Once Upon A Time (Ages 5-8)

Seasons are a great way to explore different ideas through watching a group of films. Why not try watching all the films in a season and make some time for discussion. Topics and discussion points are included.

As one of the best-loved forms of storytelling in the world, it’s not surprising that so many great movie-makers have chosen to adapt fairytales. In this FilmClub season devoted to the world of wicked witches and princesses in peril, we’ve made sure that the real old-school classics are represented with the wonderful Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. But we also wanted to bring you a choice of something a little different – a chilly fable from Russia in the form of Jack Frost, for instance, or the African yarn Kirikou and the Sorceress, or the modern, live action fun of Ella Enchanted, to name just a few.

Wherever the films you choose to watch are from, we’re sure that you’re in for a treat – the timeless magic of fairytales, presented with the sights and sounds that only the movies can offer.

SUGGESTED PAIR

Why not follow a screening of the classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with a screening of The Princess Bride – which delightfully turns the “old world” of noble princes and helpless princesses on its head!

TALKING POINTS

Did you notice how the way the film looked changed from the older movies like Snow White and Jack Frost to the more modern likes of Happily N’Ever After? Do you prefer the newer look, or the older? Even when a film features ogres and magic spells, could you still relate it to your own real life?
