Films by season & age - In Miniature (Ages 5-8)

Seasons are a great way to explore different ideas through watching a group of films. Why not try watching all the films in a season and make some time for discussion. Topics and discussion points are included.

Strange, isn't it? Despite movies being made for the big screen, some of the very best have involved the smallest people imaginable. And whenever ordinary-sized people get shrunk or little people wander into the normal world, mayhem ensues - and memorable mayhem it is too!

Ever since the author Jonathan Swift first published the much-loved book Gulliver's Travels (included here in a marvellous 1996 adaptation starring Ted Danson), the greatest creative minds have wondered what might happen if people were in miniature - and some of the results are collected here in this small but perfectly formed FILM CLUB season!

Suggested pair:

The Borrowers and Night at the Museum both feature tiny humans whose very existence is unknown to more normally-sized people!

Talking points:

What do you think would be the best thing about suddenly becoming incredibly small, as happens to the Szalinski children in Honey, I Shrunk The Kids?

Did you feel sorry for Gulliver when he first arrived in Lilliput in Gulliver's Travels?

Do you think the Ant Bully learned his lesson?
