Why We Fight is not one film, but a series of them – each made by the legendary Hollywood movie-maker Frank Capra during World War II with the aim of encouraging the American people to throw their weight behind the war. Capra had been horrified by German director Leni Riefenstahl’s documentary about the Nazi party made before war broke out, Triumph of the Will, and made these films partly as a response to them. The series includes seven films in total, each depicting a different aspect of the war and America’s involvement in it: Prelude to War, Nazi Strike, Divide and Conquer, The Battle of Britain, The Battle of Russia, The Battle of China and, finally, War Comes To America.
