Tradition causes trouble in a family when a young Maori girl wants to take up what she believes is her rightful place at the head of her tribe. Because the man standing in her way is her own grandfather - whose love for her is not enough to change his belief that only a boy could ever lead the tribe. Set in modern New Zealand, Whale Rider superbly shows happens when old-fashioned thinking gets in the way of people's potential.

The movie Whale Rider a bit funny when the man said hold your d***s and the other parts were boring.  it was kind of good when the girl got 6th whale to move out to the ocean.

I THOUGHT IT WAS VERYYYYYYYYYYY BORIN BECAUSE IT WAS ABOUT A GIRL WANTING 2 BE A WARRIOR AND SHE COULDN’T BECAUSE SHE WAS A GIRL. I THOUGHT IT WAS BORING BECAUSE I WAS VERY SLOW LIKE NOT THAT MUCH ACTION IN IT. AT THE END SHE SAVED THE WHALES BY RIDING DEM. I THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY WHEN THEY WER TRANIN AND THE MAN SAID HOLD UR D***S

i think it was alright it was funny.
i think it was a bit boring and difficult when they used the subtitles in the film. I liked the bit at the start when the man was singing. It had a good ending when the girl came back to life and she became the Whale Rider. I liked the bit when she jumped in the water and found the whale’s tooth belonging to her grandad. It was weird the way the whales ended up on the beach and then one of the whales died. She helped to save the whales in the end. When she said she was not afriad to die- I thought she was mad.

i think it was alright. some of it was funny (but i wouldnt tell any1 2 watch it) it was funny when the old man said 2 the wee boys that their d***s would drop off. but it was good 2 see about other cultures and the way they had a leader of their family which was ALRIGHT. but the way the wee girls granda got on 2 her like was fly and he was just an a**!!!!! but its really not a film i would really watch!

I thought it was funny but not the film I woud choose. I liked where the rawiri moved the chief wale. I liked the bit where she jimped in water and got the wale’s tooth.

Fascinating facts

Many of Pai's swimming scenes were actually done by Keisha Castle-Hugh's stand in because Keisha could not swim.
