With its notorious opening sequence of an eyeball encountering a razor blade that is still definitely not for the squeamish even now, Un Chien Andalou has always shocked and bemused. Surrealist film-makers Salvador Dali and Luis Buñuel claimed that their first film collaboration was just a series of jokes dictated purely by the logic of dreams – but many viewers have also felt that among the outlandish images, the presence of plentiful satirical digs at the Church was obvious.
