Tom Long is sent to stay with his uncle Alan and auntie Gwen while his brother recovers from the measles. When there, Tom is frustrated that they have nowhere for him to play - but at night, when a grandfather clock strikes 13, a large sunlit garden appears. Here he has many adventures - meeting with a young girl, Hatty, who turns out to be the only person who can see him. This adaptation retains the magic of Philippa Pearce’s children’s novel, as well as its sad undercurrents concerning growing up and the end of childhood.

It was interesting film and was quiet suprising at times. It was hard to follow at first but you can pick it up easily as you go along. Somtimes you think something is going to happen but sometimes it turns out differnt. IT is very MYSTERIOUS and is very magical. I think it would be good to watch again but people under 9 may not understand it as well as people 10+!

I thought it was a very good film but it was a bit strange and confusing in places. It was a bit creepy too!It was VERY emotional. I also thought it was too young for people over the age of 9.But overall it was an amazing film and i would definately reccomend it to people under 9 years of age! It was very mysterious and interesting it was the most confusing film ever! But sometimes things turn out one way or another and you don’t expect it! 2

Fascinating facts

The source novel of Tom’s Midnight Garden is not as well known now as it was, but the respected critic John Rowe Townsend once said: "I have no reservations about it. If I were asked to name a single masterpiece of English children's literature [...] it would be this outstandingly beautiful and absorbing book."
