By the 1920s, many Irish people had decided that military action was the only way that British rule of their country would be brought to an end. This is the story of two brothers who fight together against the British, but later find themselves on opposite sides of a civil war that breaks out after the Irish Free State comes into existence. This is history not from the point of view of the powerful, but of the ordinary people who find themselves caught up in the big events of their time.

The Wind That Shakes The Barley: I liked this film for the historical aspect. The film was good but it took a long time before anything big started to happen, but when it got going it was a decent film and i would recommend it to those who like historical and action films

I thought this movie was really good. The storyline was good. It was sad in a few places but very exciting in others. It was really sadat the end when the brother had to call ‘FIRE’ and order the execution.

By knowing that Cillian Murphy (one of my favourite actors) was in this film, i was immidiatley drawn to into his performance. Also, the story seemingly to just get better and getting me more intrigued, i was found myself getting fully involved in the film. It also seemed to wiggle its way into my emotions and i found myself wanting charcters to make the right moves, and to stay alive. I simply love this film and now i am looking for it on dvd to buy. Just an all round great film.
Fascinating facts
The film opened in 105 UK cinemas. Three times more than any of director Ken Loach's previous films.
