In recent years, the subject of terrorists (and most of all suicide bombers) has been brought dramatically to the forefront of people’s minds both in Britain and abroad. But this powerful Indian film was dealing with the issue some years before. It tells the story of Malli – a nineteen-year old girl who agrees to take part in the assassination of a political leader in South Asia, an act in which she herself will die. Based on a true story, this haunting movie from director Santosh Sivan is not one that’s easily forgotten, building into a frightening portrait of an unfolding tragedy.
