Friendships can form in the most unlikely of circumstances - take those of The Station Agent. Born with dwarfism, Fin McBride lives a lonely life with only his co-worker Henry for company. So when Henry dies and leaves Fin a small plot of land in the country with an old train depot on it, he sees nothing to stop him moving in. There, despite wanting to keep himself to himself, he finds himself first forming a bond with a local widow Olivia, and then Joe, a good-natured Cuban-American working in his dad's fast food van over the summer.

Lili from Friends of FILM CLUB
When his only friend dies a man suffering from dwarfism moves to rural New Jersey hoping for a life of solitude. What he finds is a hot dog vendor and an extremely ditzy woman trying to get over the death of her son. The film is relatively enjoyable as, to its credit, it is sensitive without being overly sentimental. It is, however, hard to completely believe in the characters at times, and therefore hard to empathise with them. The lead, Finbar Mc Bride played by Peter Dinklage is a definite highlight of the movie and he cinematography is also excellent which makes up for the slow pace, which can be a little frustrating at times. I would give this film a 3 star rating.
Fascinating facts
Due to the very low budget, Patricia Clarkson's trailer was a modified horse box.
