Based on the novel by legendary British writer Graham Greene, this is a faithful account of love and war in Saigon, Vietnam, circa 1952. Thomas Fowler, a journalist for the Times enjoys his life in what was then called “Indochina”, living with a beautiful local woman called Phuong. But Fowler's peace is shattered with the arrival of Alden Pyle - a doctor who also begins to experience the pangs of love. With a fine performance from star Michael Caine as Fowler, the film also offers a striking vision of the time and place in which it is set.
