After a country is forced to live under a brutal and tyrannical regime, the consequences can continue for years. That is the lesson learned by seemingly ordinary mother Alicia in this hard-hitting film from Argentina, set in the mid-1980s. Five years earlier, Alicia and her successful, well-connected husband Roberto adopted a little girl they named Gaby. But it is only now with the former military government having been overthrown that many well-to-do Argentinians are learning of the kinds of horrors that were committed by the army on its political opponents while they looked the other way – and to Alicia’s horror, she realises that her daughter’s real parents might have been activists murdered by the government...
