New York nobody Rupert Pupkin is obsessed with becoming a comedy great. However, when he confronts chat show host Jerry Langford with a plea to perform on his popular TV show, he’s given the runaround – and it’s then that he resorts to desperate tactics. An almost painfully perceptive study of celebrity and the thirst for fame, this may well be legendary director Martin Scorsese’s most underrated movie, with an incredible performance from star Robert De Niro as the hapless Pupkin.
