Jack Lucas is a former American radio “shock-jock” who is haunted by the fact that one of his cynical on-air rants drove a man to commit mass murder. After unsuccessfully trying to commit suicide, he comes into contact with homeless man Perry - driven to delusion by the fact his wife was one of the killer’s victims. However, Perry’s seemingly unhinged quest to find the Holy Grail may offer Jack the chance of redemption. Director Terry Gilliam reins in his customary extravagances here to create a moving and hilarious parable of salvation.

Fascinating facts

The Fisher King’s magical set-piece - where time stops still for stars Robin Williams and his maybe-beau Amanda Plummer in Grand Central Station as commuters break into a seamless, co-ordinated waltz - was performed with real commuters as well a professional extras. The New York station now hosts real-life waltzing events, such was the impact of the scene.
