There at last, he finds kindness and hope - but the threat of a return to his old life is never far away.

For me this was a real tear jerker. The acting was perfect and the story line excellent. John Hurt and Anthony Hopkins make a intence performance which isn’t to be messed with. I admit this is not a film for the faint hearted but i really think that everyone should see this film. It shows how the world saw things that they didn’t understand but it also makes us see how cruel we once were. I cried the first time i watched this and so will you. It is the best weepy you will ever set eyes on.
Fascinating facts
The make-up required to play John Merrick (“The Elephant Man”) took seven hours to apply. Star John Hurt would arrive on set each morning at 5 am and leave at 10 pm. Because of the physical strain involved in the part, he would only film every other day.
