This film is one of the most powerful films any black woman can see, but not only that, ANY woman. It speaks of a woman who has one of the harshest lives, gets raped by her father annd has two kids by him, beaten by her husband - who is love with someone else while he is with her. She meets a woman call Shug and learns to fall in love and stand up for her self.
This is a powerful, horrific awe inspiring film that brings tears to peoples eyes. If you don’t cry you have a heart of stone!
A must see!
Fascinating facts
The Color Purple gave both Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg their first major film roles.
Oprah Winfrey was staying at a "fat farm" in order to lose weight when she found out she had won the role of Sophia. She had to leave immediately as the role required her to stay heavy set.
