In 1973 Miles Monroe enters hospital for a minor operation and wakes up 200 years later having been cryogenically frozen after an accident on the operating table. The cowardly, self-absorbed owner of a New York health food store, Monroe is hailed as a saviour by the underground resistance of America in 2173, a rebel organisation locked in battle with the nation's totalitarian leader, known as 'The Leader'. Sleeper is a fast-paced comedy that moves from visual gags to word play to satire with total ease.
