Lots of kids nurture a quiet fantasy that on during their last days at school they will finally come clean about a secret crush before that person disappears from their life forever. This terrific comedy is about the tricky consequences of such a move. Because beautiful and intelligent Diane does turn out to be interested in the geeky but charming (and incredibly fast-talking) Lloyd Dobler after all– but her perfect life, he soon discovers, is a lot messier under the surface than his own frustrating one.

Fascinating facts
Say Anything star John Cusack asked the make-up department on the film to give Lloyd Dobler a small scar above his eye. This detail is never referred to in the film, but Cusack has said it helped him get into the role, as he thought Lloyd would have sustained the injury after having a rock thrown at him as a kid.
