Playing Away succeeds by linking two unfamiliar cultures through the simple device of sport and does a great job of highlighting the ridiculousness of white and black stereotypes. The film revolves around the hilarious consequences that occur when a cricket team in a small English village invites a black cricket team from Brixton to a charity game. Issues of race, class and belonging are explored in this gentle comedy of manners.
