The sporting events of the 1972 Olympic Games were overshadowed by a terrorist attack on the Israeli team that ended with eleven athletes dead. This is the story of the campaign of revenge the Israeli government embarked on following the games, sending hit squads all over the world to kill anyone remotely connected with the attack. Director Steven Spielberg wants us to wrestle with a question - at what point does payback becomes worse than the original crime? But make no mistake, this is also a terrific, tense thriller.

Following the killing of 11 Israeli athletes in the 1972 Munich Massacre, a 5 member Israeli assassination squad are sent out to track down and kill the 11 Palestinians who allegedly planned the massacre; any means necessary.

Explosive, captivating and moving. Three words to describe one of best thriller/drama films I have seen in quite a while! Steven Spielberg has YET AGAIN delivered with such a level of directing that it can hardly be matched. There very… visual scenes of violence from time to time which were portrayed and layed out. The continuous flashbacks to the massacre were AWESOME!!

A definite bite your pillow and shout sort of movie. The suspense brought me half to death and my hand was shaking at extreme points of the movie! Totally worth it!

If you don’t like great, amazing films, then don’t watch this - I really hope you do. :-)

I’m giving this a 2 star because it was hard to get what was going on.It was hard to tell who was who and who they were going after.
It was really slow moving

Knowing that Munich was based on true events and was a Steven speilberg film staring Damiel Craig, i couldn’t help but to be excited to watch it. The start of the film was very intriguing as the suspense was building up to the killings. Even as the new characters, such as Daniel craig, came into play the film was still good to watch. However, when the chases began and kept on going, i found myself thinking i was going through a tiny case of deja vu. If the energy of the begining of the film was kept then it would of made a high rating film. I just feel that it was let down by the long continuous sequences.

Munich is a film about the 1972 Olympic massacre. At the Olympics Palestinian gunmen killed several Israeli athletes and held others hostage. This film is based on real events and deals with the Israeli secret services assassinations of the Arab men involved with the kidnapping and massacre.

The beginning was cleverly done working what seemed like real news footage into the plot. I thought that was one of the major positives of the film: that it was very well put together and a beautifully done film. However it was mind numbingly slow with short scenes of violence thrown in to excite the bored viewer. I think that this films main problem was that it was not really sure what it wanted to be. It wasn’t sure whether it was a spy thriller, a political drama or a deep comment on the nature of life and patriotism. I think Spielberg was trying to do too many things with this film and because of that it didn’t really work. The politics was all fairly two dimensional saying that either one or both groups involved were ‘evil’, it failed monumentally to see shades of grey. The physiological sentiment was all very long and not very believable due to the fact that it was difficult to become involved with the charachters who vanished and appeared without much introduction or character development. Bits of the film were very exciting and all the bomb explosions were done very well however there was a lot of convoluted stuff in between.

The performances were quite good, no one really stood out as wonderful or rubbish. The script was not very good.

If you were interested in the subject matter I think that this is quite an interesting look on the way that a) secret services work and b) how the Israelis responded to the 1972 Olympic massacre. However if you want a compelling and quick piece of drama look elsewhere.

About an hour too long…

Fascinating facts

Guri Weinburg plays his own father in "Munich". He is the son of Moshe Weinberg, the Israeli wrestling referee and former champion who died in the massacre when Guri was just 1 month old in 1972.
