Stage musicals often find success on the big screen - and this 1982 adaptation of the hit Broadway show is no exception. Annie is a spirited young girl living in an orphanage who’s determined to find her real parents. She finds a champion for her cause in the wealthy Daddy Warbucks, but the scheming orphanage mistress Miss Hannigan is determined to jeopardise Annie’s happiness. There’s many memorable songs to be had along the way, including the famous theme Tomorrow and Hard-Knock Life (as sampled by Jay-Z).

This film is one of the best musicals of all time - its my favourite. after borrowing it off my grandma and then watching it dozens of times when i was younger i realised that everyone waits for tomorrow and that it has a strong sense of ambition behind the film. Annie who is an orphan portrays a asset which we all should have - ambition. she sets her sights on something (getting out of the orphanage) and doesnt stop until she gets it. it is a great film which should be watched by all

Fascinating facts

'Annie' was created by a New York Times cartoonist named Harold Gray; she was originally intended to be a boy, Little Orphan Ottor, but her gender was changed at the request of Gray's editor. Two now famous actresses auditioned for the role of Annie on film - Drew Barrymore and Elizabeth Berkley.

That’s not young actress Aileen Quinn’s real hair as Annie – she had to wear a special wig that was apparently very itchy.
