What you might think of as foolish behaviour in real life – following the instructions on a cake that says “Eat me”! –- leads to a series of bizarre and unforgettable adventures in this much-loved adaptation of Lewis Carroll's classic story. All the strange and wonderful characters from the book (the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit, the Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat) can be found alongside the adventurous Alice herself, as she tries to make sense of the crazy world in which she finds herself.

This Disney feature-length cartoon combines the most entertaining elements of Lewis Carroll’s -Alice in Wonderland. Chasing after the White Rabbit, who runs into view singing “I’m Late! I’m Late!,” Alice falls down the rabbit hole into the topsy-turvy alternate world of Wonderland. She grows and shrinks after following the instructions of a caterpillar, attends a “Very Merry Unbirthday” party in the garden of the Mad Hatter and the March Hare. Tweedledum and Tweedledee relate the story of the Walrus and the Carpenter, and closes out her day with a hectic croquet game at the home of the Red Queen. The music and production design of Alice in Wonderland is marvelous, but much too frantic to the Carroll original.

Fascinating facts
The film was originally to have featured Alice meeting the Jabberwock from Lewis Carroll’s poem The Jabberwocky – but the idea was abandoned on the grounds it would slow the story down, and might be too frightening for very young children.
Kathryn Beaumont, who is the voice of Alice, also narrates the "Alice In Wonderland" ride at Disneyland.
Winner of 4 Primetime Emmys.
