Forty years before the release of the epic Titanic came this film about the “unsinkable” vessel that sank on its first crossing of the Atlantic – and in many people’s eyes, it’s the better movie . A superb, semi-documentary recreation, A Night To Remember sticks closely to the facts, gradually building tension as other ships race against time to assist the stricken passenger cruiser. Filled with stiff-upper-lip heroism, this is a deeply moving drama that isn’t as spectacular as the later version of the story, but in its way feels far more realistic.

Fascinating facts
The footage used during the launching sequence of the Titanic is that of the 1938 launching of the Cunard Liner Queen Elizabeth, as no footage of the Titanic's launching actually existed. Despite the nearly thirty year difference in the two launchings, the substituted footage worked perfectly in conveying what a ship launch in the period was like.
Joseph Boxall, an officer onboard the Titanic, helped the producers of A Night To Remember by acting as a technical advisor for the film.
