This highly acclaimed Oscar-winning drama focuses on a period of recent history that is still shrouded in secrecy. Set in Berlin in 1984, it is the story of an officer in the former communist East Germany's secret police force, the Stasi. Captain Wiesler is devoted to his job, even though it involves spying on and interrogating his own countrymen. But when Wiesler is given the task of monitoring the famous writer Georg Dreyman, he discovers that he's being used to incriminate the man purely so that a politician can move in on Dreyman's lover. Faced with this abuse of power, Wiesler finds his ideals and loyalty put to the test.

Voiced in GERMAN, subtitles in ENGLISH.

I do like this film. Its for the people who can be actually bothered to read as subtitles will be used all the way through out the film. However when you get the hang of the situtation of the film then you will understand the past and the history of how the war had taken control of modern day people's lives.

I didn't particularly like or dislike this film, however I feel it dealt with the controversial issue of the Soviet East of Germany during the era of the war rather well. It made me want to research this topic more deeply.

At first, I didn't understand the film. But after having it explained to me what was going on in Germany at this time, I understood what was happening. I really enjoyed this film, right from the first scene till the very end. Each scene left me wanting to know what would happen next which was one of the best things about this film. A lot of good films have terrible endings, but I'm glad to say that this film had a very good one. I'd recommend this to everyone. I really enjoyed it.
