Made in 1968, this film is very much part of the rebellious mood that many young people around the world were caught up in at that point - with the assumption that the corrupt, crumbling establishment (like the old-fashioned boys' boarding school in this film) was just one final big push from collapsing. An intense and charismatic student at the school comes into increasing conflict with the teachers and the prefects, with his behaviour escalating from simply growing a moustache to a spectacular final confrontation. This is a fascinating example of 60s movie-making - and still a thrilling, hard-edged drama today.
