The life and untimely death of singer Ian Curtis is the subject of this dramatic biopic that also vividly captures an exciting moment in music history. It's the 1970s and growing up in a small northern town, Ian dreams of becoming a rock star. After witnessing the birth of punk, he joins the band that will evolve into Joy Division. But the road to success goes hand in hand with a deterioration in Ian's marriage and his physical well-being. Despite its tragic conclusion, this film is ultimately a celebration of a great talent and Joy Division's musical legacy. The black-and-white visuals only serve to make the story all the more powerful.

Control is an amazing film about the life of Ian Curtis, former singer of Joy Division.Ian lives in Macclesfield,Manchester, and has to cope with his depression, and epilepsy attacks that he frequently has whilst peforming with the band. This film shows him through his teenage years, right through to his very sad end, where his wife Deborah finds him. Also the soundtrack is amazing-Joy Division,Bowie & The Sex Pistols! Also the film is in black and white, which really adds atmosphere (Joy Division song, heh).

this film was great for me because I was brought up near Macclesfield and only a year older than ian curtis. I didn't know joy division whilst I was in Manchester in 78/79 and then went overseas for five years so missed out on the early 80s music scene. I therefore found it quite interesting - so unless you are a big fan of ian curtis I don't think you'll be that impressed

The film gives a brilliant insight into the 70's rock scene and the life of Ian, which has been foretold pretty accurately besides one or two factual errors. Shot in entirely black and white, the moments of silence where Ian's writings (spoken by Sam Riley) are the only thing that are heard really help develop the thoughts and feelings of Ian, creating that feeling of isolation and seperation from the outside world which was littered in his songs. Definitely one for the Joy Division fans, a relatively decent soundtrack accompanies the film and Sam Riley plays the part of Ian absolutely incredibly. Although it won't exactly leave you smiling, 'Control' is definitely one of the best films I have ever seen.
