The British stiff upper lip gets put to the test in this classic melodrama about forbidden love. A chance meeting at a railway station sparks romance between Laura, a housewife, and Alec, a doctor. They are both married with children, but continue to meet once a week at the station café, although they know that what they are doing - and feeling - is wrong.

This film I thought was quite depressing. It was nice in places but others really quite sad. You really feel for the characters, but not enough to make you cry

I don't really know what to say about this film. On one hand, it's very ahead of its time, showing romance in an extremely different light to many other romantic dramas of the era. But, I just couldn't get into it. It's incredibly emotionally draining, making my eyes droop as I watched it. It can also be slightly repetitive when you watch it now, after so many new romantic dramas,as so many of these films contain a similar scene and prelude. It was watchable, but I couldn't help but wish it would finish sooner, even though there was several deep characters. It also managed to save itself, with a few moments of sharp wit, obviously from the stage play from which it originated. To conclude, I'm glad I've seen it, but I'm not overly bothered about seeing it again.

A very interesting film that I liked. I found that it was told as if it was from a book. I've never really properely watched a black and white film before. I definately liked this one and I thought the ending of this film was very good.
