OK, let me tell the truth here. When i found out it was in black and white, I was quite annoyed. But, boy, was this film good! It was funny, witty, inventive and even sometimes quite scary. The actors were great and my favourite moment in the whole film was when the brother who thought he was Thedore Rosevelt kept yelling "CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGE!" while running up the stairs. Loved it. Overall, ignore the fact it's in black-and-white, this film won't disappoint!

I loved this film! It felt really good to be able to turn around to my very predjudice friend and say "Ha! See, black and white movies are good!". If your not into black and white movies, this is a great one to change your mind!
Directed by Frank Capra and starring Cary Grant as Mortimer, Priscilla Lane as Elaine, his newly wed wife, and Josephine Hull along with Jean Adair as the two bonkers aunts Arsenic And Old Lace was made in 1944. This is a horror and a comedy at the same time there really are some points where can get really scared and other points where you just laugh out loud,so it benifits to watch with a big group of friends.
Arsenic and Old Lace follows the story of two wacky sisters who poison any old lonely man who comes to their house. When there nephew Mortimer finds out he panics just knowing they've killed one person, and when he finds out the 12 is the total number they have killed he goes about trying to get his brother Teddy Roosevelt, played exellently by John Alexander, out of the house. And then when Mortimers brother Jonathon, played by Raymond Massey, appears with his Dr, Doctor Einstine, things dont get any better!
This, as I have said before, is a fantastic film, and everyone should jump at the chance to see it! I leave you with my favourite quote from the film ..... "CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGEEEE!"

This is an inspired film of the sort no longer seen in cinemas! It has all the charm that black and white filming endows, with an hilarious script easily acted out in all its ridiculousness by the actors. Cary Grant is brilliant as the nephew caught in the middle of his dotty old aunts' well-meaning, but ultimately wrong, plan of mercy. Ruddy brilliant!

'CHARGE!!' These words still make me tear with laughter. Amazing sets, comedic characters and a excellent plot. Arsenic and Old Lace is one of the greatest comedy fims I have ever watched. Even though it is black and white, it doesn't detract from the amazing film. The story is about Mortimer Brooster, who has just arried Elaine. When he arrives home he finds a scary discovery in the window seat. A series of hilarious mishaps later, Arsenic and Old Lace is one of the best films ever.

A man staying with the old women he is called Teddy and runs up and down the sairs yelling charge.
It is amazing even though it is in black and white it proves that alough it was a while ago people watched black and white that it shouldn't put you off watching them.

I absolotley adored this film. i thought i wasn't going to like it because it was in black and white, but as my mum ointed out it doesn't need to be in colour for you to be able to enjoy it. When i finished watching it, I was howling in laughter. it is about a man called Mortomer Brooster, who gets married to his fiance Eilean. He is planning to go on his honeymoon with her when he drops into his aunts house and finds whats in the window seat. A Hilarious comedy with a brilliant twist that i definetely reccomend to anyone.

This has to be one of my favourite films of all time. It's a hilarous and bizzare comedy about Mortimer Brewster who go to visit his two aunts and his insane brother after he gets married to Elaine Harper. Looking arter Teddy is hard work and very noisy. He's got it into his head that he's Theodore Roosevelt and he blows a bugle, yells "CHARGE" every time he goes up the stairs as fast as he can, and when Mortimer finds a body in the window seat, he tells his aunts that they simply must have Teddy commited to an asylum. This is when he finds out that his aunts have developed a habit of killing lonely old men by giving them homemade elderberry wine with arsenic, strychnine-and just a pinch of cyanide. They convince Teddy that all the bodies are of yellow fever and he buries them in the basement.
Things get complicated when Mortimer's brother Jonathan turns up with his surgeon accomplice Herman Einstein, escaping from the police for mass murder. He decides to bury one of the bodies in the cellar-but of course he finds all the others! It's all too much for Mortimer, especially since insanity runs in his family. Not that you'd think it though...
This is an outstanding film that's full of laughs from start to finish. Don't be fooled by it's body count as it's not a scary film-but it is perfection! Everyone needs to see this at least once before they die...Best film ever!!!
