Nine-year-old Frankie is deaf, and lives with his mum, Lizzie. But they move around a lot, and Frankie has never met his dad, a sailor on the HMS Accra - although he writes to him frequently, telling him all about his exploits. When Frankie realises the Accra is set to visit the small Scottish coastal town he's living in, he's over the moon at the chance to finally meet his father. But Lizzie's hiding a secret - they're on the run from Frankie's real father, and she's the one sending him the letters. Rather than reveal the truth, she decides to hire someone to act as Frankie's perfect dad for a day.

I thought this film looked very good, thought provoking and well made. The students were less keen because they had not heard of it. I would recommend it for better established groups with older students, rather than early into a new group.

This film was chosen for family night and so at the bottom my parents will put a statement. But for my statement now. Dear Frankie was an emotionally provoking tale of a boy who never saw his dad, his mum is trying to get a replacement dad but ends up falling in love with him. This film is one of laughter, joy and excitement. The concept is a sweet one and is put on our screens with perfect precision. The actors were great especially Jack McElhorne, who played the deaf boy, I remember seeing a few films with him in but I think this is the best film because he really captures the emotianal barrier being a deaf boy. I loved the film, I would recommend this film to anyone but shame it has the swearing in it. L.-H.-Thorpe. Year 6. 10.

This was an interesting story, showing a mother trying to do the best for her son. But it is very difficult to trick children, they are more aware of their surroundings than we give them credit for. Parent of Leanne.
