What you say

  • It made me think: are films just for enjoyment, should they always end happily or are films about showing you the world, new ideas, making you feel different emotions?

I was a little bit worried when I found out I needed subtitles but actually I found that it made me concentrate on the film and soon forgot about them!

Beijing Bicycle is set in Beijing, China. It was action-packed, and quite violent! The main character gets a job at an express delivery service but his bicycle is stolen this then brings him into contact with another character who is desperate to own a bike (like the rest of his friends) but his family don't have enough money to buy him one. This story explores different backgrounds within a small group of teenagers.

I did not however like this film, mostly because I did not fully understand it!
I think the film is aimed at teenagers, boys specifically. I think it is aimed at boys because of it being about bikes I think lots of people would like it but not me!

I would rate the film 3 stars because although I didn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t really understand the message I felt the emotions of the characters and still wanted to find out what happened next!

Bejing Bicycle is a Chinese movie with subtitles. I found that because it was in Chinese it was hard to hear the emotions of the characters. Because there wasn't much talking I focussed on the music alot and it started to get annoying. It was interesting watching a different kind of movie. I thought it was 25% happy and 75% sad and I believe a film should be 25% sad and 75% happy. I watch a lot of action films but I was still very shocked and slightly scared by the violence. I didn't exactly like Bejing Bicycle but I thought it was well filmed and I loved the last shot of the boy with the broken bicycle and all the cars seemed to be still.

Beijing Bicycle is a tragic film that illustrates the hard life of country man trying to make a living in a big city. Watching a film in a different language with subtitles was a new experience for me and though at the beginning it was a bit confusing I soon got used to it. I thought it was much too violent to be a PG and thought it should be a 12. This movie shows that life isn't always fair and that good doesn't always win. It made me think: are films just for enjoyment, should they always end happily or are films about showing you the world, new ideas, making you feel different emotions? Are films art?

Three and a half out of five.
