Canadian Richard Hannay (Robert Donat) is watching a demonstration of the superlative powers of recall of "Mr. Memory" (Wylie Watson) (a man with a photographic memory) at a London music hall theatre when shots are fired. In the ensuing panic, he finds himself holding a seemingly-frightened Annabella Smith (Lucie Mannheim), who talks him into taking her back to his apartment. There, she tells him that she is a spy, being chased by assassins, and that she has uncovered a plot to steal vital British military secrets, masterminded by a man with the top joint missing from one of his fingers. She mentions the "39 steps", but does not explain its meaning. The 39 Steps was my great nans favourite film and I think its very good!

This was a very interesting film. However, I was disapointed it was in black and white but on the other hand...another great film by the Director of Rear Window! 5 Stars...To all!

I thought that it was a good and funny film. I thought that it dragged on a bit and took a while to get going. It was funny and entertaining and it was different from some of the other black and white films that I have seen. The storyline was very good and the cast were very good as well. I would recommend it to my friends.

Starring Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll, The 39 Steps is a brilliant film to watch. Although it may be some 86 years old give it a go ; you'll surprise yourself ! Albert Hitchcock is a mastermind in this funny spy movie. It is perfect for introducing people to black and white movies. Some people (including me!) think that because films like this are extremely old they aren't as good as the cheesy Hollywood movies but The 39 Steps outranks basically all of those Hollywood films. I would definitely recommend this film to everybody that is a film lover, as I absolutely loved this film! This is probably one of the best movies i have ever seen (and I have seen quite a lot) so go on and try this movie today!
    I loved it!
