Not to be confused with its flag-waving, fist-pumping sequels, the original film from 1976 about down-on-his-luck boxer Rocky Balboa is tough and emotionally powerful story. Rocky makes his living intimidating people for a back-street money-lender but still dreams of being a pro fighter, and gets his unexpected chance when the world champion decides to take on an unknown as a publicity stunt. Sylvester Stallone's film is as much about poverty and the words strong men struggle to say as it is about the big climactic fight.

PLEASE BE AWARE: After ordering Rocky the disc you will receive will be marked as being a 12 certificate - however, this relates to the extra features on the DVD and not the film itself, which is certified with the BBFC as a PG.

FILMCLUB has consulted the BBFC, and their guidance is that as long as a club leader screens only the film (and not additional features or audio commentaries etc), Rocky can be treated as a PG certificate in a school setting.

This is the film that catapulted Sylvester Stallone into the international spotlight and launched one of the most successful sereis of films in movie history.Rocky won the 1976 Academy award for the best picture and two nominations for Stallone for leading actor and writer. This is the story of a loser,a two bit boxer from Philedelphia, who gets a second chance in life by being offerd an impossible shot at the heavyweight title.Stallones performance is as powerful as his characters punches in the ring. This is one of the most exiting action movies you will ever see!!!

Rocky is an underdog boxer with much more talent than than a nobody. He doesn't know how to count, read or write properly and he stays very close to boxing with nothing else on his mind but his girlfriend.
I like Rocky because of the story-line and the sheer hard work the Actors,Musicians, special effect artists
and especially the Make up artist put into it, this film deserves more than 5 stars!

The film was really good. A mixture of a manwho wants love with a fighting spirt. The basic story line is a boxer who is in love with a vet owner. The champion wants to fight him in the battle to end all battles. In the end Rocky does not win the match but he is the first person to be in one peice at the end of the match. His love finaly loves him back.
It would be a great film for a family to see or a lover for a fighting film. This film was so great. That it was built as good as a Rocky hill.
I give this film 4 out of 5 as there were parts were you would walk out or go to the bathroom, these parts were long. But a film's a film is it not.
ROCKY I must say that this film was a load of rubbish. It has made my "world's worst films viewed on thursdays" list, second only to "O brother, where art thou?". This film was so bad, I skipped the second half, viewing only the last 10 minutes - during which time I was reading a book. Luckily, I feel that the ending was extremely sentimental, because it involved POETIC IMAGE NUMBER 34 NOT FOUND. Simply astounding stuff. If you were to ever see John G Avildsen, throw an apple at him. This films main topic was love. In a boxing movie. LOVE. Have you ever heard of an old computer saying, "DOES NOT COMPUTE"? In conclusion, I shall not be gracing this film with anything more than 2 stars, and it only got that because of the ending!
