This groundbreaking sci-fi classic has been a favourite of both critics and film fans ever since it first came out in 1982. In a rainy and neon-lit Los Angeles of the future, Rick Deckard (played by Harrison Ford) works as a "blade runner" - a cop whose sole job is to hunt down and terminate four robots in human form known as "replicants." However, the replicants, who have learned to cherish life, will do anything to save themselves. What follows is both a film about the meaning of life itself, and an action-packed thriller full of suspense that will keep you glued firmly to the screen.

This is not action-packed sci-fi adventure but one to ponder and then watch over again and again. It is hard to believe that this film is 30 years old (and this is the first time I've seen it). Nevertheless, it is bang up to date with it's futuristic, dystopian vision of a decaying society populated by deeply flawed humans. There are slaves - and then there are wage slaves. The Replicant Roy Batty sums it up in his dying words "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. All these moments will be lost in time like tears in rain." A replicant's life is a short one but perhaps it is preferable to the drudgery of the lives of the teeming masses left behind in the dark, dank, dangerous inner city of Los Angeles 2019. I hope it was not too inaccessible for my FILMCLUB and that they will revisit it one day and appreciate it for the masterpiece it is.

Heavily criticised on it's release in 1982 blade runner has since developed a cult following. The story is fairly simple: set in a rain drenched version of 2019's Los Angeles retired cop Rick deckard (played by Harrison Ford) is sent out to retire/ execute four replicants or illegal androids but soon deckard falls for replicant Rachael. Many editions of this film were realesed and one question has been asked over the following years: Is Deckard who he says he is?.

Drenched in Film-Noir, Blade Runner is Ridley Scott's dystopian masterpiece. Harrison Ford plays the titular Blade Runner Rick Deckard, a bounty hunter of Replicants. After a bloody coup in outer space, Replicants ( Androids used for menial labor of world ) are deemed illegal on earth and are "Retired" by special police units Blade Runners. 6 Replicants make their way to a futuristic LA in order to meet their creator Eldon Tyrell, played by Joe Terkel. Deckard is pulled out of retirement for the one last job. A seemingly straight forward story is then washed in with complex themes of identity, and good old fashioned underlying themes and symbolism. Many people remember this movie for the performance of Harrison Ford, but the show really belongs Rutger Hauer, as his brilliant acting as the Replicant leader Roy Batty. The acting of these two characters is prominently displayed in the confrontation on top of the dilapidated Bradbury Building, which leads to the famous "Tears in rain" monologue. The Special effects need to be noted, as the movie is 30 next year, which in my opinion trump avatar. Quite Possibly the greatest sci-fi movie of all time, by the greatest director of all time, Ridley Scott.

this is one of the only scfi film from the 80s i kind of give a 4 out of 5 star rating. i relly enjoyed blade runner i watch it for the first time on 20.12.09 on tv when i was only 11 years old. then i bought the dvd of it on 16.01.10 when i was 12. now im 13 i watched it again for the second time on 24.01.10 and i could watched again for a few more times. blade runner is a 1982 scfi drama about a fugitive (harrison ford) who runs to the future and finds himself in another world. he finds werid science alien or robot technolgy around him and finds a enemy lurking in his way. this film is a world simpler to scfi films like the matrix but harrison ford was a good actor in this motion 29 year old from this date motion picture. if you enjoy scfi films like star wars or tron i suggest you check this picture out now i liked the film i give it 4 stars 4 out of 5 ad i hope you enjoy harrison fords movies much as i do.

For a film in the 1970's set in 2019, its not bad at all, though I got lost with the storyline and plot.
