If you're looking for proof that dreams do come true, then this inspirational documentary is it. A joyous, triumph-over-adversity story, the subtitled film paints an intimate portrait of the Congolese rumba-blues outfit Staff Benda Bilili: an ultra-talented group of homeless survivors from the poverty-stricken capital Kinshasa, whose intoxicating and vibrant music has allowed them to transcend their roots and become global sensations. But what makes their success even more incredible is that their core members are also severely disabled, due to childhood polio. Shot over six years, this toe-tapping, labour of love captures the highs and lows of the band's journey to fame, from their early songs played on the streets using homemade instruments, to their jubilant performances at prestigious international events.

Watch our interview with the directors of this great documentary.

Fascinating Facts

The documentary came about by chance, after French co-directors Renaud Barret and Florent de la Tullaye stumbled across the band busking in a Kinshasa street, and were blown away by their music.

Benda Bilili was 86 mins long and was about street musicians who live on the streets go through a hard time and had a good ending. I gave this 1 star because it had a good meaning but it could of been shown a bit better. Also I disliked the animations and they kind of where begging.

I would not reccomend this film because it was really boring.

I think this film wasn't very good because in some parts are scary and i didn't like the film .I rated this film 1 stars because a man was getting beaten up and there was quite a lot shouting , something they could improve on is a little less violent and more suitable for kids . I liked the part when the band was on tour singing their songs.

Benda Bilili is a band in Kinshasa and is a true story about a group of disabled people who are trying to make money to feed their families and go on a tour to play their music. Their songs are about other people cant compare them self’s to the band because just because they have more money than them.

I thought this good because the band weren’t actors and it was interesting at the same time. The only I don’t like is some of the scenes because it has 10 year olds drinking beer and that could be a ban influence to children. Despite that I thing all ages above 10 because it might be a bit boring for them.
