As singer and guitarist with the Beatles and later a solo performer, John Lennon became one of the most famous and controversial rock stars ever. But this film looks at him as a teenager in 1950s Liverpool, under the clashing influence of the aunt who looked after him and the mother who had given him up. Actor Aaron Johnson does an excellent job of evoking how sharp and funny Lennon could be.

A superb film with a very strong cast. Interesting to focus more on his relationships rather than his music. An outstanding performance by Aaron Johnson who played Lennon superbly and faultlessly. Another fantastic British film. Hurray!

This was a must see for me as soon as i saw the trailer, being in my teens i obviously have little knowledge of the Beatles and especially of John Lennon's childhood. this film gives such an insight you can feel for him, even if you aren't a big fan of his. the acting is amazing from all cast members, especially Aaron (spelling?) Johnson, and Thomas Sangster -John and Paul. The story is very revealing of what he had to go through as a teenager and lets us see what made him the great songwriter he grew up to be. Funny, Romantic, and sad all in one film, maybe not one for the younger viewers due to quite a bit of swearing, drinking, drug use and sexual scenes etc. My personal favourite was the parts where you could see John and Paul's friendship growing to that we know of them, and the personal hell that John went through with his mum and aunt Mimi- extremely good acting from Johnson on these parts.
