Carol Reed, the director of such fantastic British movies as The Third Man, made this unique and memorable film about a young Jewish boy growing up above a tailor's shop in a working-class area of London after World War II, who becomes obsessed with a fable he hears. Convinced that owning a magical unicorn (actually a baby goat) will allow him to grant wishes to the people around him, he sets out to transform the lives of his friends and neighbours - and it sometimes seems that his dream might not be so unlikely after all. Mixing the fantastical with a gritty and realistic portrait of London life in the 1950s, this is an unusual and fascinating movie from a great British director. PLEASE BE AWARE: After ordering A Kid For Two Farthings you may receive a disc marked as being a 12 certificate - however, this relates to the extra features on the DVD and not the film itself, which is certified with the BBFC as a U. FILMCLUB has consulted the BBFC, and their guidance is that as long as a club leader screens only the film (and not the additional features or audio commentaries etc), A Kid For Two Farthings can be treated as a U certificate in a school setting.

I didn't really like this film because it is not one I will usually watch. I thought it was quite funny when the little boy said just you wait till I get my unicorn and when he found one it was a lamb/goat with a horn. it was sad when the lamb/goat died.

The ending was really sad :(
