An American psychologist, John Holden, arrives in London to attend a conference about the paranormal. A British colleague has just died in strange circumstances after investigating a demon cult, and the man behind the cult appears to have supernatural powers. Holden starts his own investigation but will he fall victim to the demon, too? This spine-tingling 1950s horror movie was made by director Jacques Tourneur, who preferred to create a sinister atmosphere and let the audience's imagination run riot.

Classic adaptation of M. R. James' Casting the Runes (1911) about Dunning a researcher for the British Museum who gives a bad review of a book called The Truth of Alchemy by a warlock called Karswell. Karswell isn't happy and so "casts the runes" and sics a demon on the researcher who will come for him at a certain time.....unless he can pass the runic document on to someone else.

In the film the English Dunning becomes an American - Holden (Dana Andrews) - who arrives for a parapsychology conferance to find that a collegue of his has died after tangling with Karswell (Nial McGuiness). It's not long before Holden fcrosses paths with Karswell and the runes are cast....

A very creepy, atmospheric and classy horror film; one of the all-time greats of the horror genre and both it and the short story on which it's based are amongst the most infuential on other horror films and literature. Sam "Evil Dead / Spider-Man" Raimi made his version as Drag Me to Hell (2009) and there was a decent ITV adpatation Casting the Runes (1979).

This film was very scary and i thought that it made an even more scarier film in black and white. I wouldn't watch that film again because i thought it was toi scary for me.

I found Night of the Demon quite entertaining but it definately is not my favourite film.
The film itself is quite old so the graphics are not the best.
The storyline is very ingenious but if not told "properly" it can quite confusing.
Luckily it was told "properly" so it was a great film to watch, especially with all my friends on a dark evening!!

I think that it is a film that should be split into two parts, because you can get very board with it extreamly quickly.

The age and costumes held it back a bit, but the actors and scary[ sort of] story line was good.

I hope many others enjoy this as well as me.

Night of the Demon is a film about a man thinking there is no such thing as a Demon, but he finds a man that does. The man who does, tries to persuade the man who doesn't into thinking they do exist. Finally the man agrees after an experience with some black smoke and fire coming towards him in some woods. Then the man realizes he will die!He then decides to make the demon go to the other man so it will kill him instead, and the trick works!

I like the story line of this but it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be.I also thought that it was funny and amusing at times.
