Many films could be described as love-it-or-hate-it experiences - but few are as worthy of the name as Dancer in the Dark, a heart-breaking tale that has always divided those who see it. A musical which stars the Icelandic singer Bjork in what is still the only movie role she has ever taken on (she also wrote most of the songs), the story follows the character of Selma - a good-hearted woman from Eastern Europe who lives with her young son Gene in the America of the early 1960s. But life soon takes a tragically unexpected turn for this most trusting of characters. This is a hard-hitting film that deals with some very emotional issues, and is only suitable for our oldest members - but it is also a powerful and unique movie.
