27th January, 2012
Suggested by @GenesisCinema
From now on, we'll be asking for YOUR suggestions of films to feature in both Classic Tuesday (formerly Time Travel Tuesday) and Foreign Language Friday. Use #ClassicTuesday or #ForeignLanguageFriday or tweet us at @filmclubuk; post on our Facebook, or email Anna.
We only launched this on Twitter this morning, but we've already had loads of great suggestions, from Studio Ghibli to Jules et Jim. It was this offbeat suggestion from our friends at Genesis Cinema that really stood out though - a Korean romantic comedy which, as they wrote themselves was "the film Park Chan Wook made so his children could watch his work!"
I'm A Cyborg But That's OK (15, Korean)
Age Rating: 14+
Duration: 105 mins
Year: 2006
Director: Chan-wook Park
Cast: Su-jeong Lim, Byeong-ok Kim, Hie-jin Choi, Rain, Yong-nyeo Lee
This is truly unusual romantic comedy tells the story of a bored, young female factory worker who one day, following a bizarre close encounter with a radio aerial, comes to believe that she has been transformed into a cyborg. Naturally enough, this leads to a stay in a psychiatric hospital where she meets a collection of people with a wide variety of symptoms, experiences some imaginatively weird fantasies and makes friends with a patient who has found a cunning way of helping out those around him. In Korean, with English subtitles.
